Moon Added to List of Endangered Heritage by World Monuments Fund
new york - The World Monuments Fund (WMF) has classified the moon as endangered heritage due to the growing concerns of commercial space flights posing risks to the remains of previous missions.
The WMF states that a new era is dawning for space exploration. This raises concerns about the artifacts left behind from earlier moon missions being at risk, according to the organization. Scientific equipment, as well as the historic footprints of Neil Armstrong, were among the legacies left by previous moon landings. The WMF emphasizes the need for international cooperation to protect the human legacy on the moon.
Moon missions were traditionally conducted by government space agencies for decades, but this is changing. Last year, a private company successfully landed a spacecraft on the moon for the first time. In addition to the moon, the conservation organization also highlights numerous locations on Earth facing threats from climate change, conflicts, tourism, and other factors.
