paris - Mathias Pogba, the older brother of football star Paul Pogba, has been sentenced to one year in prison in connection to the kidnapping and extortion of his brother.
In the trial concerning the abduction and extortion of Paul Pogba, Mathias Pogba, 34, has been handed a one-year prison sentence. In March 2022, Paul Pogba was held captive for hours by two armed men who demanded 13 million euros from him, including 3 million in cash.
There were six individuals involved in the kidnapping and extortion, all of whom have been on trial since November 26 in a Paris court. This afternoon, the prosecutor outlined the sentencing demands for the accused.
The harshest penalty in this case is reserved for Roushdane K., who has been viewed as the main instigator of the extortion scheme since the beginning of the trial. The prosecutor has demanded an 8-year prison sentence, a fine of 20,000 euros, and a ten-year ban on carrying a weapon for him.
The defendants Boubacar C., Machikour K., Mamadou M., and Adama C. have also been fined 20,000 euros each and handed a ten-year ban on carrying weapons. The prosecutor requested a 5-year prison sentence, with 2 years suspended, for Boubacar C. Machikour K. faces a similar demand of 5 years in prison, with 3 years suspended. The prosecutor also sought a 5-year prison term, with 18 months suspended, for Mamadou M. And Adama C. was also demanded a 5-year sentence, with 1 year suspended.
The 34-year-old Mathias Pogba faced the lightest requested sentence: 3 years in prison, with 2 years suspended, along with the option of an alternative penalty such as house arrest or an electronic monitoring device, and a 10,000 euro fine. If the court follows the prosecutor's recommendations, Mathias Pogba may not have to serve additional time in prison as he has already spent several months in pretrial detention.
