Mass Graves Uncovered in Chihuahua
Local prosecutors in northern Mexico announced the discovery of 56 bodies in mass graves in the state of Chihuahua. The remains, including bodies and skeletons, were unearthed earlier this week, along with bullet casings. The forensic lab is working to identify the deceased.
The graves were found in an area known as El Willy, controlled by a criminal organization called La Linea. Chihuahua state lies along a drug and migrant smuggling route to the United States. Last month, at least twelve bodies were found in various graves in the region.
Since Mexico launched a major offensive against drug cartels in 2006, over 450,000 people have been killed nationwide due to gang violence.
