dentergem, belgium - The man who attacked three fellow residents in a care home in Dentergem, Belgium, had previously killed his wife in 2021.
Suspect's History of Violence
Aloïs D., a man in his nineties, had murdered his 87-year-old wife, Mariëtta C., in 2021 by striking her head with a hammer after 66 years of marriage.
Despite being found mentally fit during the initial murder investigation, a court psychiatrist noted a rapid decline in his mental state. The court decided he needed psychiatric care instead of a trial, foreseeing potential future violent acts due to his mental disorder.
Struggling with health issues, D. was living under strict conditions in the care home where he later attacked three residents. The victims included an elderly couple celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary in 2022, with the husband and another elderly man losing their lives in the attack. The wife remains hospitalized in critical condition.
