santa cruz - Ian Applegate's life was endangered when a simple sneeze led to a ruptured artery in his neck, causing a stroke.
Hard Sneeze Leads to Stroke
A routine car ride turned into a nightmare for Ian Applegate in California. A forceful sneeze while driving caused an artery in his neck to rupture, cutting off blood flow to his brain and resulting in a sudden stroke.
Applegate, 35, experienced sharp pain and dizziness after the sneeze, followed by tingling on his left side. Rushed to the hospital, doctors administered blood-thinning medication to prevent further clotting. Currently in intensive rehabilitation, he aims to return home before his daughter's birth in April.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, Ian shared, "It was a powerful sneeze, but I never imagined something like this could happen. Now, I fear sneezing." Applegate hopes his near-death experience serves as a warning about the rare but potential dangers of forceful sneezing.
