Lost anchor recovered in investigation into suspected sabotage of Finnish cables on seabed
baltic sea, finland, estonia - A lost anchor has been recovered on the seabed of the Baltic Sea as part of the investigation into suspected sabotage of electricity and internet cables.
Finnish police have recovered a lost anchor on the seabed of the Baltic Sea as part of the investigation into suspected sabotage of electricity and internet cables.
Finland seized the tanker Eagle S in December, which was transporting Russian oil. The vessel is suspected to have caused damage to the Finnish-Estonian Estlink 2 high-voltage line and four telecom cables. It is believed that the ship dragged the anchor across the seabed, which is connected to the cable rupture that occurred on Christmas Day, December 25.
According to Finnish authorities, the Eagle S is part of the Russian shadow fleet of old oil tankers used by the country to circumvent sanctions.
The location where the anchor was found is along the route of the Eagle S at the western end of the drag mark found on the seabed, the Finnish police said in a statement. 'We are pleased that the anchor has been found. It will contribute to the progress of the criminal investigation and is now undergoing forensic analysis.'
