American Firefighters Prepare for Strong Winds
Firefighters in Los Angeles are getting ready for the forecasted dry and windy weather on Monday, with gusts up to 130 kilometers per hour. The two largest fires, which have destroyed nearly 16,000 hectares and decimated neighborhoods, are now over half contained. Thanks to a lull in the wind this weekend, evacuation orders in many parts of the city have been lifted, allowing thousands of residents to return home.
Prompted by the approaching winds, President Donald Trump announced plans to visit Los Angeles by the end of the week. California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, invited Trump to assess the damage, following criticism on his handling of the wildfires.
