Jack LaSota, Leader of The Zizians, Denied Bail
The court in Maryland has decided that Jack LaSota, 34, known as Ziz, will not be granted bail. LaSota is believed to be the leader of a 'cult-like' group called The Zizians, allegedly involved in several murders.
LaSota, along with Michelle Zajko, 32, and Daniel Blank, 34, was arrested in Frostburg on Sunday. They are facing charges of trespassing and are suspected of being connected to six murders across three states.
The Zizians, followers of LaSota, are linked to the deaths of two landlords in California in November 2022 and January 2023. In December 2022, they are accused of killing Zajko's parents in Pennsylvania. Additionally, the group is implicated in a shooting incident near the Canadian border in Vermont, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including border patrol agent David Maland.
LaSota, the group's leader, frequently posted violent blogs online under the alias Ziz. The Guardian reported that the members met online, discussing topics such as veganism, gender identity, and artificial intelligence on forums. Concerns arose regarding the potential dangers associated with the latter topic, leading to the group's radicalization and turn to violence, as per CNN.
The judge ordered LaSota, who identifies as a transgender woman, to be held without bail, citing concerns for public safety. Prosecutors described LaSota as 'the apparent leader of an extremist group'. The three suspects were not physically present in the Cumberland court on Tuesday.
