Kremlin Rejects Donald Trump's Peace Plan for Ukraine
moscow - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has rejected Donald Trump's plan for peace in Ukraine, stating the dissatisfaction of the Kremlin with the proposals.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has dismissed the peace plan proposed by the incoming President of the United States, Donald Trump, for Ukraine. Lavrov expressed the Kremlin's absolute dissatisfaction with the proposals made by Trump's representatives.
Trump had suggested a ceasefire, allowing Russia to retain control over parts of Ukraine seized since the start of Russia's 'Special Military Operation'. European peacekeeping forces would be stationed along a demilitarized zone, replacing the current front line. Additionally, there would be a guarantee that Ukraine would not be allowed to join NATO for the next twenty years.
However, Lavrov, in an interview with the Russian state news agency TASS, stated, "We are absolutely not satisfied with the proposals made by Trump's team." He particularly opposes the presence of European military on Ukrainian territory, categorizing a ceasefire as a dead-end path.
Lavrov indicated that he has not received any official notifications regarding the plan from Washington. He also emphasized that Joe Biden remains the President of the United States, with Trump's inauguration scheduled for January 20.
