Justice Department Warns Musk About Giving Away Million Dollars a Day

World October 23, 2024 23:50

washington - The U.S. Department of Justice has warned billionaire Elon Musk that giving away a million dollars a day to voters may be in violation of the law.

The department tasked with investigating potential election law violations has sent a letter to America PAC, Musk's political action committee, cautioning against the daily million-dollar giveaways. Musk, the CEO of Tesla and currently the wealthiest person in the world, is backing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the elections and has already poured $75 million into America PAC.

On Saturday, Musk announced in Pennsylvania that he would be giving away a million dollars every day until the elections on November 5th to someone who signs his online petition in support of the U.S. Constitution. However, to be eligible to sign the petition, individuals must be registered voters in 'swing states'. CNN reports that it is against the law to pay individuals to register as voters.
