- Jordan and Egypt are resisting President Trump's plan to expel Palestinians from Gaza, emphasizing the need for an Arab initiative for reconstruction.
Jordan and Egypt Stand Against Trump's Gaza Plan
Jordan and Egypt are standing firm against President Trump's plan to take over Gaza by expelling Palestinians from the region. During a meeting at the White House, Jordan's King Abdullah II revealed the existence of an Arab initiative for the reconstruction of Gaza, countering Trump's insistence on seizing Gaza and displacing Palestinians. The details of the plan mentioned by King Abdullah are yet to be disclosed. Egypt announced an extraordinary Arab summit on Gaza on February 27, following Trump's statements. Political analysts suggest that the plan may be shared after the summit, where Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa is expected to meet with Trump this weekend.
Both Jordan and Egypt have shown reluctance towards Trump's plan, with Jordan's Foreign Minister stating the existence of a joint Arab-Egyptian-Palestinian initiative for the reconstruction of Gaza. The efforts of Jordan and Egypt to resist the forced displacement of Gazans have been appreciated by Hamas, while the Palestinian Authority's Foreign Ministry described the reactions of Jordan and other Arab countries as 'courageous and brotherly.'
French President Emmanuel Macron also opposed Trump's Gaza plan, emphasizing the need for a political solution and respect for the Palestinians. Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit labeled the expulsion of Gazans from their lands as 'unacceptable,' echoing the sentiment of the Arab world that has been fighting against this idea for a century. Over 30 human rights experts from the United Nations jointly condemned Trump's plan, stating that forcibly annexing foreign land, expelling its population, and depriving the Palestinian people of their right to self-determination are illegal acts.
