Israeli Delegation to Cairo for Negotiations
Israeli negotiation team is set to travel to Cairo, the capital of Egypt, for talks on the Gaza ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement. The 42-day first phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza will end on March 1. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the negotiation team to continue talks by heading to Cairo. The specifics of the negotiations have not been disclosed yet. Netanyahu has been accused of obstructing the second phase negotiations, which are supposed to commence 16 days after the implementation of the agreement. Previous negotiation teams that went to Cairo and Doha, the capital of Qatar, were not authorized for the second phase discussions. Israeli media reports suggest that the Tel Aviv government is reluctant to proceed to the second phase and intends to extend the first phase to secure the ongoing release of Israeli prisoners in Gaza.
