Israeli Military Strikes Syrian Military Depot
Israel's Defense Forces announced an airstrike on a military area in Kardaha district, Latakia, Syria, where old regime weapons were stored. The decision to target the military infrastructure in the region was made due to recent developments. The IDF stated that they will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary steps for Israel's security.
Israeli Attacks on Syria and Occupation
Following intensified conflicts in Syria on November 27, 2024, and the collapse of the 61-year-old Ba'ath regime on December 8, Israel's attacks on the country escalated. The Israeli military began destroying the remaining military infrastructure and capabilities of the regime, expanding its occupation in the Golan Heights. Entering the buffer zone near the Golan Heights, Israel advanced its occupation closer to the outskirts of the capital, Damascus, up to 25 kilometers. Israel has been occupying the Golan Heights, a Syrian territory, since 1967. The Withdrawal of Forces Agreement signed in 1974 between Israel and Syria defined the boundaries of the buffer zone and demilitarized area.
