israel, palestine - Israel expresses concern over the apparent weight loss of hostages released by Hamas in the 5th round of a prisoner swap.
Hostage Exchange Between Israel and Hamas
On the 5th round of the hostage swap between Israel and Hamas, 3 Israeli hostages were released by the Red Cross while 183 Palestinian prisoners were set free by Israel. The hostages, Eli Sharabi, Or Levy, and Ohad Ben Ami, appeared weaker compared to previously released captives, sparking reactions in Israel. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared recent images of the 3 hostages taken by Hamas on October 7, 2023, questioning the role of human rights organizations.
Medical Concerns and Emotional Reunions
Following the swap, it was reported that 42 Palestinian prisoners were transferred to the West Bank, 3 to East Jerusalem, 20 to Gaza, and 7 outside the country. 7 prisoners were hospitalized in Ramallah due to poor health conditions. Families joyfully welcomed the released prisoners in the town of Beitunya near Ramallah. The frail appearance of the prisoners upon arrival raised concerns.
Among those released was Jamal al Tawil, the former mayor of El-Bireh, who had been imprisoned in Israel for 19 years. His daughter, journalist Bushra, was released in a previous exchange last month.
Netanyahu's Statements and Future Actions
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed determination to eliminate Hamas despite the ceasefire in Gaza. He also vowed to do everything possible for the return of all Israeli hostages held in Gaza.
Current Affairs in Palestine
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, discussing bilateral issues and the situation in Palestine.
