tehran - The Iranian Supreme Court has overturned the death sentence of a human rights and labor rights activist, Sharifeh Mohammadi, according to her lawyer.
The conviction of Mohammadi sparked protests around the world, especially from human rights organizations. Her lawyer, Ami Raissian, stated that in a new trial, they will reconsider what kind of punishment she may face.
In Iran, the death penalty is possible for a wide range of often vaguely defined offenses, such as 'spreading corruption on earth'.
