fort lauderdale, florida - Inter Miami's MLS season opener against NYCFC rescheduled to Saturday night at Chase Stadium.

Inter Miami's Season Opener Rescheduled

Inter Miami's MLS season opener against New York City FC has been moved to Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Originally scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET, the game was delayed by five hours due to the postponement of the Concacaf Champions Cup match between Inter Miami and Sporting Kansas City. The decision was made to prioritize player and fan safety in light of severe weather conditions in Kansas City.

Reason for Rescheduling

The Concacaf Champions Cup match between Inter Miami and Sporting Kansas City was initially set to take place on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET in Kansas City. However, multiple weather reports issued a winter storm warning, predicting five to seven inches of snow and temperatures as low as five degrees Fahrenheit. As a result, the match was moved to Wednesday with expected temperatures of three to five degrees Fahrenheit.

Player and Fan Safety

Concacaf, in coordination with the participating clubs and local authorities, emphasized that the decision to reschedule the match was taken to ensure the safety of players and fans. Inter Miami manager Javier Mascherano highlighted the need to consider the broader impact of severe weather conditions on the city, beyond just the game itself. Sporting Kansas City's MLS season opener against Austin FC remains unaffected and is scheduled to kick off at 9:30 p.m. ET at Q2 Stadium.
