A woman lost her job after being falsely accused of a speeding offense in Harrogate, UK. Another woman claimed she was driving at 69 kilometers per hour where 48 kilometers is allowed. In reality, it was the latter who committed this offense.

It is unclear why Sobia Iqbal, the actual culprit, reported the innocent woman to the police. She did so by pretending to be that woman, confessing through a letter to the police what she had done. This resulted in a fine for the innocent party and the loss of her job.

The North Yorkshire police, where Harrogate is located, suspected a false confession after issuing the ticket. Footage of the speeding violation showed Iqbal behind the wheel of the speeding car. It is unclear why this footage did not surface earlier.

Iqbal eventually had to confess her guilt. She received a suspended sentence from the York court for obstructing justice. The 39-year-old is also required to pay a compensation of 500 pounds to the innocent woman.
