washington - Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall in Florida as a category 5 hurricane, with sustained winds of 250 kilometers per hour.
Hurricane Milton has intensified to a category 5 hurricane on its way to Florida, with sustained winds of 250 kilometers per hour and potential gusts even higher, according to the National Hurricane Center. This marks the second time in the current Atlantic hurricane season that a hurricane has reached the highest category, following Hurricane Beryl in July. It is unprecedented for a hurricane to reach the highest category so early in the season. Beryl made landfall as a category 1 hurricane in Texas, causing significant damage and disruption.
It is projected that Milton will weaken before making landfall on the west coast of Florida on Wednesday.
