Historic Book on Napoleon's Coronation as Emperor Fetches 29,000 Euros at Auction
brussels - An historic book detailing Napoleon's coronation as Emperor of France has been sold for 29,000 euros at an auction in Brussels, surpassing its starting price of 4000 euros.
An historic book chronicling Napoleon's coronation as Emperor of France has fetched 29,000 euros at a recent auction held by Arenberg Auctions in Brussels. The starting price for the book was set at 4000 euros.
Henri Godts of Arenberg Auctions remarked, "This amount should come as no surprise. The first edition of this historical 'celebration book' from 1804-1806 can be considered yet another example of Napoleon's megalomaniac ideas. Napoleon sought to showcase his imperial dignity and his place in history with this publication."
The auction house previously likened the 'ornate book' to the social media platform Instagram. The book contains numerous details about the ceremony where Napoleon crowned himself as emperor on December 2, 1804. It features illustrations, historical insights about the coronation, as well as details such as the guest list and the dress code.
The book measures 66 by 47 centimeters and includes forty highly detailed copper engravings. The cover is made of reddish-brown leather adorned with elaborate gold decorations, including the initial 'N'.
