nuuk - Prime Minister Múte Egede emphasized that Greenland is not for sale after renewed interest from US President-elect Donald Trump.

Greenland is not for sale, stated Prime Minister Múte Egede in response to the interest shown by the upcoming American President Donald Trump in the island. 'Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and will never be for sale,' Egede said. Greenland has been a part of the Kingdom of Denmark for over six hundred years and hosts, among other things, a large American air base.

Trump wrote on his platform Truth Social that the United States 'believes that the ownership and control of Greenland are absolutely necessary for national security and freedom worldwide.' He did not elaborate on this further. Trump is set to take office as president in a month.

Greenland had stated years ago that it was not for sale to Trump. Former and current Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called Trump's idea 'absurd.' Trump reacted negatively to Frederiksen's rejection at the time and canceled a visit to Copenhagen.
