Greece Plans to Deploy Missiles on Aegean Islands
greece - Recent reports suggest that Greece is preparing to deploy new missiles on its islands in the Aegean Sea, escalating tensions with Turkey.
According to the Greek newspaper Ta Nea, Greece is planning to arm its islands in the Aegean Sea with new missiles, including Israeli-made Spike NLOS missiles and PULS missile systems. The plan also includes the purchase of new missiles with ranges of 180-200 kilometers. When combined with the French Exocet missiles already present on the islands, Greece aims to create a 'missile wall' in the Aegean. Defense Minister Nikos Dendias had previously mentioned the plan to create a 'missile wall' during a speech at the Naval Academy in December. The cost of the Israeli-made missiles is estimated to be around 370 million Euros, with additional costs for the PULS missile systems. Greece is also considering purchasing devices to counter drones and UAVs, with discussions of creating a system similar to Israel's 'Iron Dome' at a cost of around 2 billion Euros.
