brussels - A 13-year-old girl was seriously injured by fireworks after bullies threw them into the apartment where she lived.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in Van Arteveldestraat in the center of Brussels. The girl came home in the afternoon for lunch. She was alone at home when two bullies threw two fireworks sticks against the kitchen window from the street. Perhaps due to the weight of the sticks, the window broke and the bombs landed in the kitchen of the apartment.

The girl tried to pick up one of the fireworks sticks and throw it back when it exploded. 'Everything went silent and suddenly someone ran screaming into the hallway,' said one of the neighbors. 'It was the neighbor girl, her hand was completely broken, covered in blood. She lost her fingers.'

In the ensuing confusion, the apartment building was immediately evacuated because it was feared that more 'bombs' might explode. The girl was taken to the hospital where she underwent surgery. She has lost most of her right hand.

Witnesses on the street saw what had happened. Two young people had thrown fireworks inside. It is reported that the two had targeted the brother of the thirteen-year-old girl, who had been bullied by the duo for some time. Earlier in the week, they had thrown fireworks on the terrace.

According to Nieuwsblad, the main perpetrator has been identified. Whether he has been arrested by the police or not is unclear. He is said to be a fifteen-year-old boy. The Public Prosecutor's Office could not comment on the case yesterday. Furthermore, it is still unclear what type of fireworks were used. It is suspected that it may be the powerful cobra fireworks that are quite popular among some young people in Brussels.
