German Ferry with Almost 250 Passengers Safely Returns to Port Hamburg
hamburg - A ferry, making a day trip to the German island of Helgoland, encountered a power outage while returning on the North Sea, causing delays in its arrival at the port.
The ship, that made a day trip to the German island Helgoland, encountered a power outage on the return journey on the North Sea. Passengers had to wait for hours for the arrival of two tugboats. They towed the Funny Girl back to the coast, where it arrived about seven hours later than planned. No one was injured.
The newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt reported that the two generators of the 68-meter-long ship stopped working. According to a crew member, the atmosphere onboard was good. The North Sea was calm when the incident occurred, and the staff reportedly announced that there was 'enough beer onboard'.
Helgoland is located about 70 kilometers from the mainland in the German Bight. The island is popular among bird watchers and nature enthusiasts. Although Helgoland belongs to Germany, visitors can shop duty-free there.
