berlin - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has stated that he is willing to request a parliamentary vote of confidence later this year, paving the way for early elections in Germany.

Scholz said in a TV interview that "it would not be a problem for me" to request the parliamentary vote before Christmas. Earlier, he had mentioned a vote in mid-January and elections at the end of March.

Last Wednesday, the coalition government collapsed when Scholz dismissed his Finance Minister after weeks of disputes over the future economic direction of the government.
