berlin - The German justice system is looking into whether a doctor suspected of murder for palliative care in Berlin has been involved in forty other suspicious deaths.

German authorities are investigating whether the 40-year-old doctor, Johannes M., who is already suspected of murdering at least eight patients, may be linked to an additional forty deaths. He has been in custody since August. In that month, it was revealed that he was suspected of at least four murders, but by the end of November, that number had increased to eight. The victims were elderly patients who reportedly died from a cocktail of medications. Prosecutors believe the doctor's sole motive was his desire to kill. Some victims also had their homes set on fire to destroy evidence.
