German AfD Breaks Ties with Militant Separatists
berlin - The German Alternative for Germany (AfD) party announces it will cut ties with members who were recently arrested for allegedly planning to secede the state of Saxony from Germany.
The German Alternative for Deutschland has decided to sever ties with members who were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly planning to secede the state of Saxony from Germany.
German media reported on Tuesday that the eight arrested individuals were members of a right-wing extremist terrorist group known as the Saxon Separatists. They were said to adhere to a racist and anti-Semitic ideology and were allegedly involved in paramilitary training camps in anticipation of the collapse of the German state. Some reports also suggested that some of them had connections to the AfD. According to the Leipziger Volkszeitung, one of them may have served in the city council of Grimma.
This seems to be confirmed by the party now. In a statement, the AfD refers to the "members involved in the actions of justice" and distances itself from them. The statement reads, "Regardless of on whose behalf the Saxon Separatists have operated, there is no place for them in our party of freedom, peace, and national sovereignty."
