russia, moldova, ukraine, europe - Russian energy giant Gazprom announced that it will stop natural gas supplies to Moldova as of January 1, 2025, due to unpaid bills.

Russian energy company Gazprom has stated that it will halt the natural gas supply to Moldova starting from January 1, 2025. According to the written statement, Moldova has failed to pay its debts for the Russian gas it imports. The statement pointed out that Moldovagaz company frequently fails to fulfill its contractual obligations with Gazprom. Therefore, based on the contract terms, as of 08.00 (GMT) on January 1, 2025, Gazprom will limit the natural gas supply to Moldova to 0 cubic meters per day.

Gazprom used to supply Moldova with approximately 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.

Following the war in Ukraine, natural gas trade between Russia and many European countries had come to a halt.
