Former Senator Menendez Receives 11-Year Prison Sentence
In a federal court in Manhattan, former Senator Bob Menendez was sentenced to 11 years in prison by Judge Sidney Stein for using his high position to accept bribes including gold bars, cash, and luxury cars. Menendez was found guilty of bribery and corruption charges by a jury in New York in July 2024. After serving nearly 19 years in the Senate, he resigned as the fourth longest-serving senator in New Jersey's history.
Corruption and Bribery Allegations
Menendez, known for his anti-Turkey stance and close ties to the Armenian and Greek lobbies, faced 16 charges including accepting bribes, obstructing justice, and lobbying for foreign countries. His resignation from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairmanship following the investigations did not go unnoticed, especially in light of the F-16 sale to Turkey.
