berlin - A former member of the Red Army Faction (RAF) has been charged with thirteen robberies and one attempted murder in Germany.
Justice in Germany has announced that a suspected member of the Red Army Faction (RAF) has been charged with thirteen robberies and one attempted murder.
The 66-year-old Klette was involved with the RAF in the 1980s and 1990s, also known as the Baader-Meinhof Group, a left-wing extremist movement that carried out attacks. She then lived for years under an assumed name in Berlin. Along with two other members, Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg, she has since been committing robberies to generate income.
According to prosecutors, Klette was usually the driver of the getaway car, while the other two carried out the robberies with weapons. They have stolen a total of at least 2.7 million euros. Justice has accused Klette of attempted murder once, during a robbery in Stuhr in 2015.
The new charges only cover the period after 1998, when the RAF was disbanded. Crimes from before that period are being investigated separately. Staub and Garweg are still being sought by the police.
