In Pasadena and Altadena, the Eaton fire has ravaged 2,227 acres since it started around 6:30 PM local time yesterday. Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone confirmed the loss of two lives in the Angeles National Forest and Eaton fires, alongside numerous injuries and over 100 structures destroyed.
The Hurst fire in Sylmar, north of San Fernando, damaged approximately 500 acres, while the Woodley fire in San Fernando Valley affected at least 75 acres. Authorities have declared evacuation orders for 80,000 individuals amid threats to 28,000 structures. The dry weather and strong winds have exacerbated the situation.
Additional chaos has ensued as a result of the fires. Nearly 300,000 users were left without electricity in the area this morning, with dangerous levels of air pollution in parts of Los Angeles. Precautionary measures have been advised for the elderly, children, pregnant women, and individuals with heart or lung conditions.
The ongoing forest fires have disrupted education in many areas of Los Angeles, affecting 19 out of 80 school districts. The situation is dire enough that even Vice President Kamala Harris's residence in Los Angeles has been included in the evacuation orders, despite her absence at the time of the order.
