Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to Visit Northern Cyprus with Key Agendas on Table

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is expected to carry out a working visit to Northern Cyprus on 8-9 January 2025.
During the visit, Hakan Fidan will evaluate recent developments in the Cyprus issue and bilateral matters with the authorities in Northern Cyprus.
In the coming months, an informal meeting is planned to be held in Switzerland under the host of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, with the leaders of Northern Cyprus and Greek Cypriot Administration, representatives of motherlands, and the guarantor country, the UK, at a lower level of representation.
It is anticipated that during his visit to Nicosia, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will hold consultations with the authorities of Northern Cyprus regarding the aforementioned informal meeting.
In 2024, there was a renewed activity in the Cyprus issue after a long period of stagnation.
On 15 October 2024, a private dinner was hosted by UN Secretary-General Gutterres with the participation of Northern Cyprus President Tatar and Greek Cypriot Administration leader Hristodulidis.
Following the informal dinner, a statement released by the UN Spokesperson's Office acknowledged that there is currently no common ground for formal negotiations between the parties on the island.
Turkey has continuously aimed at ensuring the security, development, and welfare of the Turkish Cypriot people as a Motherland and Guarantor state, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Referring to the unofficial 5+UN format meeting held in Geneva on 27-29 April 2021, the statement highlighted that the Turkish Cypriot side led by President Ersin Tatar announced its withdrawal of support for the two-state solution and put forward a vision of a two-state solution for the resolution of the Cyprus issue.
The statement underlined Turkey's full support for a two-state solution in Cyprus.
