Measles Outbreak in New Mexico
Meanwhile, New Mexico has confirmed 9 cases of measles so far. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that measles, transmitted through coughing or sneezing, results in 1 to 3 deaths per thousand cases. The measles vaccine, administered in two doses, is 97% effective in preventing the disease. However, concerns over vaccination have led to a decline in the number of children receiving the measles vaccine as recommended by the CDC.
