victoria - The first case of bird flu in a human has been reported in the Canadian province of British Columbia, according to local authorities.
Government officials say the infection is likely to have come from a bird or another animal. Bird flu has traditionally been found primarily in wild birds and poultry. But it is also increasingly being detected in mammals.
Scientists are concerned because a high infection rate could facilitate the mutation of the virus. This could also increase the likelihood of human-to-human transmission.
