washington, us - The discovery of thousands of new secret documents regarding the assassination of President Kennedy raises conspiracy theories.
FBI Discovers 'New' Secret Documents on JFK Assassination
In a surprising turn of events, around 2400 'new' secret documents related to the assassination of President Kennedy have been unearthed in the US. These documents were never presented to a committee that should have decided on their disclosure as per a 1992 law.
President Donald Trump was reportedly briefed about these newly emerged files on Friday. The contents of these documents remain unknown. The FBI is said to possess approximately 14,000 pages of classified documents in total, with the remaining papers being kept secret for national security reasons.
Trump recently ordered the release of all remaining secret documents pertaining to the assassination. The National Security Director was instructed to come up with a plan for disclosure within fifteen days, a deadline that expired last Friday. The Director informed the White House about the discovery on that day, but the next steps remain uncertain.
This revelation, which leaked to the press on Monday evening, fuels suspicions surrounding the infamous Kennedy assassination. Experts caution against setting high expectations for the upcoming release of the remaining documents.
President Kennedy was fatally shot during a visit to Dallas in November 1963. The lone gunman theory involving Lee Harvey Oswald is doubted by two-thirds of Americans. Various conspiracy theories, from CIA involvement to Cuban retaliation, have circulated over the years.
Trump has also ordered the disclosure of secret documents concerning the assassinations of Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. within 45 days. Both these murders, in 1968, are shrouded in mystery.
Burger rights activist King was shot in April 1968 in a Memphis hotel. The motive behind his murder has been a subject of speculation, with some suggesting a mafia and government conspiracy. Similarly, Robert Kennedy was assassinated during a campaign event in Los Angeles in June of the same year. The shooter claimed his action was in response to US support for Israel, though rumors of mafia connections persist.
While millions of documents related to these assassinations have been made public, the remaining portions were kept classified to protect intelligence sources and methods.
