Father who abducted baby Santiago extradited from Netherlands to France
netherlands - The father of baby Santiago, who was kidnapped by his parents just seventeen days after birth in Paris, has been handed over to France by Dutch authorities.
The father of baby Santiago has been extradited to France by the Dutch authorities on Thursday, according to French news agency AFP. Baby Santiago, born prematurely, was abducted by his parents from a hospital in Paris just seventeen days after his birth. The couple fled with the child to Belgium and then to the Netherlands. The baby was found in a hotel in Amsterdam on October 25 after an extensive search, along with his grandmother and two other children.
The 25-year-old father is scheduled to appear before the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Bobigny court, which is handling the investigation into the case. The mother of the child was flown back to France on November 7. Her lawyer had stated earlier that she took the child as she feared he would be taken into care.
The case has garnered significant media attention in both France and Belgium, with alert notices issued in both countries. The 'Child Alert' displayed on Belgian highways is rarely activated and was visible due to the high-profile nature of the case.
