tbilisi - The death of a prominent trans woman in Georgia has sparked shocked reactions in the country. Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the brutal killing of the 37-year-old actress and influencer Kesaria Abramidze, who had multiple stab wounds. The victim, who had over half a million followers on Instagram, represented Georgia in the 2018 Miss Trans Star International competition.

The Georgian authorities have apprehended a suspect believed to be Abramidze's partner, according to local media reports. The pro-European President Salome Zoerabisjvili, at odds with the Georgian government, condemned the "horrific murder" of Abramidze, calling for the tragic incident to awaken the country.

Abramidze was reportedly killed on Wednesday, a day after the Georgian parliament approved controversial legislation targeting the LGBTQ+ community, including bans on same-sex marriages and adoptions by gay couples, sparking international outrage, including from the Netherlands.
