False Bomb Threats Cause Emergency Landings and Diverted Flights in India
new delhi - A series of false bomb threats have disrupted air traffic in India, leading to emergency landings and flight diversions.
The Indian aviation sector has been dealing with a wave of false bomb threats. According to the Times of India, nearly twenty domestic and international flights have received bomb threats since Monday, primarily through social media channels. All of these threats turned out to be false alarms.
On Wednesday, seven more false bomb threats were reported. This led to the order for a domestic flight carrying 184 passengers from the capital New Delhi to Bangalore to return after a 'security alert.' Another flight traveling from Mumbai to New Delhi was diverted to Ahmedabad.
On Tuesday, Singapore scrambled two fighter jets after an email warning of a possible bomb on an Air India Express aircraft. The F-15s were deployed to steer the plane 'away from populated areas.' The same day, an Air India flight en route from New Delhi to Chicago had to make an emergency landing in Canada due to an 'online security threat.' The Canadian military later flew the passengers to Chicago.
Zulfiquar Hasan, the director of the aviation safety bureau, reassured the public that the 'Indian airspace is absolutely safe.' Investigations are ongoing to identify the culprits behind these threats. Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that police have arrested a minor for making bomb threats against three flights.
