Facebook Weatherman Becomes a Hero: Edgar McGregor's Warning Prevents Tragedy
los angeles - A 24-year-old American potentially saved hundreds of lives with his early warning about serious wildfires in a Los Angeles neighborhood.
'Self-made' weatherman Edgar issued the warning in his Facebook group Altadena Weather And Climate the day before the fire started to spread rapidly. He predicted that the area would be hit by a historically severe storm and fire. He urged residents to stay awake the whole night at least.
Despite studying climate science, Edgar remains humble. He told People magazine that he just did his job. He said, "I didn't run into a burning building and save people. It was 'just' a warning."
The American mentioned that he had already seen in the weather models the last two days of 2024 that things could go terribly wrong in January. He then started warning residents to prepare their cars for a quick departure. And advised them to put all important documents and valuables in the car. Although it may have seemed like an absurd warning at the time, it turned out to be accurate afterwards.
McGregor himself was lucky as his house in the Altadena neighborhood did not burn down. However, many of his neighbors were engulfed by the flames.
McGregor's Facebook page, with 7,000 followers, is filled with grateful comments from residents who evacuated in time: "You are amazing."
