Explosion in South Korea's Fuel Storage Tank
An explosion occurred in a giant fuel storage tank owned by United Terminal Korea (UTK) in Ulsan city, South Korea. The blast led to the death of 1 person and injury of another. The fire that broke out after the explosion was extinguished after approximately 3 hours of efforts.
Following the explosion, a 2,500-liter capacity tank succumbed to flames, prompting the dispatch of 44 fire extinguishing vehicles along with numerous firefighters and medical personnel to the scene.
One of the 2 workers found injured at the accident site lost his life in the hospital, while the other injured worker is currently receiving treatment.
Moreover, the fire, which was intervened both from the air and the ground, was completely brought under control at 14:19 after nearly 3 hours of continuous efforts.
Initial investigations revealed that the explosion occurred while the fuel level inside the tank was being checked by the personnel. A detailed inquiry has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the accident.
