Eurocommissaris Hoekstra Expresses Disappointment
Eurocommissaris Wopke Hoekstra (Climate) regrets the decision of the new American president Donald Trump to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.
Hoekstra: 'It is regrettable that the largest economy in the world and one of our staunchest allies in the fight against climate change is stepping back from the Paris Climate Agreement.'
The Dutch Eurocommissaris states in a declaration that the EU will continue its green course unabated: 'Science is clear: every gradual increase in global temperatures will entail enormous costs. Both economically and socially, and in terms of human lives.'
Brussels is even planning to launch a new climate target for 2040 soon. It is intended that the bloc will achieve a 90 percent reduction in CO2 by that year compared to 1990. In 2050, the EU aims to be climate-neutral.
