The European Union has decided to suspend sanctions targeting sectors such as banking, energy, and transportation in Syria. The decision, approved at a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Brussels, allows for the provision of funds to the Syrian central bank and grants transfer permission to five banks. The new leadership under Ahmed Shaara, who overthrew the Bashar al-Assad regime, has been advocating for the lifting of sanctions to aid in the reconstruction of Syria.
