In Brussels, the incumbent Mayor Emir Kır has won the repeated elections in Saint-Josse municipality. In the local elections held on October 13, Kır's list won 17 out of 29 seats in the municipal council with 50.5% of the votes. However, due to procedural irregularities in a few proxy votes, the court ordered a repeat of the elections.
In the repeated elections, Kır increased his vote share to 55.6% and secured an additional seat, reaching 18 members in the municipal council. Kır stated that the results reflect a historic response from the public, emphasizing the importance of respecting the voters' will. He highlighted the significance of receiving the highest vote share in the Brussels Capital Region without the need for a coalition.
Emir Kır, whose family migrated from Afyon Emirdağ to Belgium in the 1960s, was born in Charleroi.
