london - An internal investigation by the British navy revealed that female personnel in submarines suffered from misogyny, harassment, and other unacceptable behaviors, resulting in the dismissal of eighteen individuals.

An internal investigation conducted by the British navy uncovered instances of misogyny, harassment, and other unacceptable behaviors towards female personnel in submarines. These behaviors were identified across all ranks during the period of 2014-2020, although the report noted that they were not pervasive throughout the entire organization. Admiral Ben Key, the head of the navy, expressed genuine remorse over the findings, labeling such behavior as 'appalling' and 'unacceptable'.

The recommendations made by the investigators have been implemented, including the appointment of a new head of culture and adjustments to training programs.

The investigation was initiated two years ago following allegations by a former member of the Royal Navy. Some of the accusations were reported to the Ministry of Defence's serious crime department, but insufficient evidence was found to proceed with prosecutions.

A total of 28 separate investigations led to the dismissal of eighteen individuals, while four were demoted in rank and six faced disciplinary or administrative actions.
