Eiffel Tower Evacuated Due to Fire in Elevator Shaft

paris - The Eiffel Tower in Paris was evacuated on Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in an elevator shaft between the first and second floors. Around 1200 visitors were present in the monument at the time of the evacuation.
The fire, which started around 10:30 am, is now under control. The tower was cleared after the fire alarm went off. The cause is believed to be a short circuit, according to the French news channel BFMTV. The operator of the famous monument, SETE, stated that visitors were not in danger.
The 330-meter-high Eiffel Tower in Paris attracts daily between 15,000 and 25,000 visitors, making it the most visited monument in the world that requires a ticket for entry.
