Dozens of Escaped Monkeys from Research Center Cause Disturbance in South Carolina
yemassee - Dozens of monkeys have escaped from a research center in the American state of South Carolina, causing concern in the town of Yemassee.
Approximately forty monkeys broke out of the Alpha Genesis company. It is unknown for what research purposes the animals were used and whether they have been exposed to diseases.
The police have set traps and are using thermal imaging cameras to locate the monkeys. Citizens are advised to call the emergency number if they spot the animals.
The specific type of monkeys that people should watch out for has not been disclosed. The company, according to its website, works with capuchin monkeys and macaques. Local media report previous incidents of primates escaping in the area, including in May of this year and in 2016. Nineteen animals had escaped from Alpha Genesis on those occasions but were captured a few hours later.
