kolkata, india - A recent Indian study indicates that dogs might have a preference for a specific color, particularly yellow.
Dogs' Color Preference
According to a study conducted by Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research, dogs seem to gravitate towards the color yellow. Despite having limited color perception compared to humans, dogs displayed a clear preference for yellow objects in an experiment involving 130 stray dogs in Kolkata, India.
Researchers placed three food bowls in front of the dogs - blue, yellow, and grey. The majority of the dogs immediately headed towards the yellow bowl, even when there was food in the grey bowl and none in the yellow one. This behavior led the researchers to conclude that dogs are more attracted to the color yellow than to food itself.
Possible Explanations
The study suggests that dogs' fascination with the color yellow could be related to the common orange or brown fur of stray dogs, which may appear yellowish to them. Further research is needed to confirm this hypothesis. Future studies will investigate whether dogs' color preferences are innate or learned, with a focus on evolutionary aspects by comparing dogs and wolves.
