Democrats Struggle with Huge Debt after Disastrous Campaign
washington - The Democratic Party is facing financial woes following a costly campaign that involved extravagant spending on artists, influencers, and advertisements.
Campaign workers are worried about not getting paid after the failure of presidential candidate Kamala Harris, despite the campaign raising over $1 billion in donations, leaving the party with a debt of around $20 million.
The Democrats spent millions on concerts featuring famous artists such as Jon Bon Jovi, Katy Perry, Christina Aquilera, and Lady Gaga in swing states. The costs of these performances, estimated at $15 to $20 million, were covered by the campaign. Expenses escalated to the point where a planned concert by Alanis Morissette had to be canceled due to financial constraints.
In addition, an interview between Harris and Oprah Winfrey came with a hefty price tag, with Winfrey's production company earning over $1 million for the town hall meeting. The campaign also paid $3.9 million to a firm that hired influencers to promote Harris positively.
Most of the campaign funds, $880 million, were allocated to advertising. Team Harris spent significant amounts on eye-catching ads, including those displayed at venues like the Sphere theater in Las Vegas and NFL football games.
Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump mocked the Democrats' financial situation, suggesting that Republicans should come to their aid. Trump emphasized the effectiveness of earned media, contrasting it with the Democrats' heavy reliance on paid promotions.
A prominent Democratic Party official described the costly campaign as 'a disaster,' confirming a shortfall of $18 to $20 million. The party is currently grappling with financial difficulties as a result of the lavish spending.
