Rare Sighting of Johnsons Hengelvis
The 'Johnsons hengelvis' typically inhabits depths of 200 to 4000 meters in tropical oceans, known for its monstrous appearance with sharp teeth. Recently, divers from the NGO Condrik Tenerife captured a unique moment as one of these creatures ascended towards the sunlight, a sight never seen before. David Jara Bogunyà, a marine photographer, expressed his childhood fascination with deep-sea creatures and the surreal experience of witnessing the hengelvis near the water surface.
The reason behind the creature's unusual behavior remains a mystery, with speculations ranging from ocean currents to potential predator interactions. Unfortunately, the hengelvis met a tragic fate and perished after its brief venture to the surface. The divers preserved the specimen for display at the Museum of Nature and Archaeology in Tenerife, evoking emotional responses on social media platforms like TikTok.
