havana - Millions in West Cuba, including Havana, without electricity as Cuban power grid fails. Efforts ongoing to restore power.
Cuba Power Outage
The Cuban Ministry of Energy and Mines reported a major power outage on Friday evening, leaving a significant portion of West Cuba, including Havana, without electricity. Only some hotels with generators had power.
Reports from remote provinces east and west of the capital indicate that a large part of the country's population of ten million people is affected. Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz stated that continuous efforts are underway to restore the power grid.
Cubans frequently experience power outages due to the outdated and fragile network. The Cuban electricity provider can only supply half of the national demand, resulting in prolonged power cuts even without outages.
