Couple Suspected of Stealing Nearly a Million Euros Worth of Lululemon Sportswear
minneapolis - An American couple has been accused of stealing nearly a million euros worth of sportswear, allegedly from the Canadian brand Lululemon.
An American couple, aged 44 and 45, have been caught red-handed in a clothing store in mid-November, reportedly attempting to steal sport leggings priced at around one hundred euros each, reports The Guardian.
During the alleged theft attempt, the couple claimed that the store staff intentionally set off the alarm, which they believed was racially motivated. As a result, they were allowed to leave without being arrested.
Further police investigation revealed that the couple had stolen significantly more from various sportswear stores. Authorities went to the couple's hotel room after reviewing surveillance footage, where they found over ten suitcases filled with presumably stolen clothing.
Police estimate that nearly a million euros worth of yoga clothing has been stolen. The couple is suspected of theft from multiple stores in Minnesota, Utah, Colorado, New York, and Connecticut.
According to The Guardian, the couple employed various tactics, including deliberately setting off alarms and accusing staff of racism, as well as one distracting staff while the other hid expensive sportswear under their own clothing.
The allegedly stolen yoga clothing was then returned for cash via credit cards. The couple may face a significant prison sentence, with reports from various American media suggesting a potential sentence of up to fifteen years.
